Core Memories | Childhood on the Beach

Watching a lady bug crawl in the sand

with your nose so close you can see each little grain

Swimming so hard and then snuggling up for a snack

then dosing so close to sleep

but awake enough to hear the gulls

Chilly splashes, rolling in the warm sugar sand

then splash

then sand again ~ back and forth

over and over and over

Sun so loud!!

In your eyes, in your ears,

on your prickly shoulders, scratched by the sand, leftover on your skin

even after you’ve showered and get under your cool sheets

Someone wrapping you up in a towel too big…

someone who’s very strong and loves you

Hoping it never ends

begging for one more dive

running away ~ out to the waves ~ because it’s the best place on this earth to be
